How to make a panorama photograph
At least, I have had the method.
TOOLS that I use:
- CAMERA
- Panasonic DIGICAM NV-DJ1 (VIDEO CAMERA itself)
- raynox PRO-5050 (Super Wide Conversion Lens x0.5, diameter: 49mm)
Use photo-shot mode of a NV-DJ1 video camera.
A panorama photograph needs a camera with a FOV degree from 60 to 97 normally,
according to a document of QuickTime VR Authoring Tools Suite. However,
a NV-DJ1 video camera has a FOV degree until about 45 with using a PRO-5050
conversion lens. So, the height must be narrower than the normal view.
- MOUNTER/ATTACHMENT
- GRUPPO Manfrotto 410 JUNIOR GEARED HEAD (x-y-z 3-way angular adjuster)
- Velban MACRO SLIDER (x-y 2-way shifter)
- U.N CAMERA ANGLE CHANGER or SLIK Vertical Bracket S
- Camera tripod (that can mount the angular adjuster)
- some junctions
See a documents of Apple QuickTime VR Authoring Tools Suite
for setting them.
- MACINTOSH HARDWARE
- Apple Power Macintosh 8100/100AV
- Interware GrandVimage 20AV (Video Capture Board)
- MACINTOSH SOFTWARE
- Video Capture Tool (Adobe Premiere)
- Picture Edit Tool (GraphicConverter 2.4 and Adobe PhotoShop 4.0J)
- Apple QuickTime VR Authoring Tools Suite 1.0 or 2.0
- RealAudio Encoder 2.0.1
- Opcode Audioshop
- Netscape Navigater 3.01
- Adobe PAGEMILL 2.0J
A video capture tool captuers frames from a NV-DJ1 video
camera by the video vapture board and saves them as a QuickTime movie file.
A graphic edit tool picks up some frames from the movie file and saves
the frames as PICT files for processing them with the QuickTime VR Authoring
Tools. The QuickTime VR Authoring Tools makes a panorama photograph or
a QuickTime VR movie file from the PICT files.
According to Nikkei MAC Aug. (1996) pp. 187, by using a spherical surface
transformation filter of Adobe PhotoShop, we can decrease a distortion
of photograph caused by a Wide Conversion Lens.
NOTES for making a QuickTime VR Cross-Platform file:
- A size of a panorama photograph is 384 x 1248. If it is not the size,
a play.exe (QuickTime VR 1.0) clashes when you open it.
- Please, read the manual very well.
